Sandy v.s Irene

You wince as the cost of the various food in your cart adds up. Bread, water, cereal, snacks, and more are piled up, enought to sustain a village, but you know you will need it for later. Mountains of supplies, taller than yours, are pushed around in overflowing shopping carts, the customer stocking up even more, clearing aisles of food. The upcoming hurricane has gotten everyone empyting their wallets at stores, preparing for the dreaded superstorm, making shops rich. Last year, the news of Hurricane Irene has gotten everyone brooding, but compared to Sandy, it was a kiddie coaster next to Kingda Ka. The dangerous mess these two natural disasters left us differs greatly...
Hurricane Irene left as fast as it arrived, leaving no major damage. We all returned to our normal lives after it, as if it never happened at all. Sure, the elecricity went out for a little bit, but no T.V or refrigerators for a couple of days can't kill us. On the other hand, Superstorm Sandy made Irene seem like a dream, for it itself was like a nightmare for some, just the title of it lets people know how much more powerful and descructive it was. For one, we missed a whole week of school, for some, even more than that, limiting our spring break. Elecricity for most went on vacation, leaving us in the dark or staying over at a friend's place. This storm was brutal and left rubbles of unfortunate houses, especially the one's near Jersey Shore. An unbelievable picture even claims that a shark was on the boardwalk because of a flood. A week has passed since the storm has visited NJ, and yet, some of us are still experiencing the effects of Sandy. The amounts of trees that has fallen, even roots yanked out of the ground, has happened in both storms, but Irene is no match for the descruction left by the deadly Sandy. Days after the superstorm almost no stores were opened, including gas stations, and even some traffic lights weren't working. And it's not just adults who suffer because of the storm this year, for we kids had to celebrate Halloween in November. The fun of getting free candy and dressing up was pushed a week after because of the superstorm, and worst of all, giving us a time limit for trick-or-treating.
Effects of Sandy. (Fin of a shark in water!)
